How to pack a PC part so it arrives safely
Good packing protects the part, the Seller's payout and the Buyer's experience. Most transit damage is preventable.
What you need
- Anti-static bag for boards and chips.
- Original box if you have it, plus a sturdy outer carton.
- Bubble wrap or foam, and packing tape.
Steps
- Remove anything loose, such as brackets, and bag it separately with the part if it is included.
- Wrap the part in an anti-static bag. Keep contacts and gold fingers free of tape.
- Place it in the original box and fill gaps so it cannot move.
- Put the box inside a larger carton with at least 4 cm of cushioning on every side. Double-box heavy cards.
- For graphics cards, support the card so the weight does not hang on the PCIe connector or fans.
- Seal with strong tape and put the shipping label on the outside. Do not write contact details on the parcel.
Record it
Photograph or film the part, serial number and finished parcel before the courier takes it. If a claim is made, this is your proof.
Do not
- Do not use newspaper or loose paper as the only cushioning.
- Do not ship without an anti-static bag.
- Do not include batteries unless they are installed and allowed by the courier.
